The Friday File #36 - Jesse Williams

Jesse Williams is best known for playing Dr Jackson Avery in Grey's Anatomy and also because he has the most piercing eyes ever (ok, maybe not ever!). He has also starred in the film The Cabin in the Woods will next be seen in the The Butler.

The way that I understood The Voice programme

The idea of the TV show The Voice is to find unsurprisingly THE VOICE. Other singing and talent shows have always showcased more of the best overall talent. The Voice UK website says;
Sir Tom Jones, will.i.am, Jessie J and Danny O'Donoghue search for The Voice UK, an incredible singing talent chosen purely on the quality of their voice
The series starts with the four in chairs with their backs to the contestants and they can only see who they are listening to if they hit their button. I had got progressively more irritated by the format of the show, I think the first episode of over an hour and a half had about 6 performances. SIX! Far too much fillers and not enough voices. I missed a few episodes but had seen the episode with Andrea Begley and as the typical girl that I can be with my emotions, hearing her sing had made me cry. I had missed Mike Ward's audition but I started to see how he was standing out in the later rounds. I liked Leah but that was as far as that went, plus her make up scared me (not her fault but she looked ridiculous in HD). As for Matt Henry, Jessie J's favourite had gone our in the semi's (her words) so he was never going to win the final and was the first to leave on the Final night.

Music Monday: Miles Kane - Darkness in our hearts

I really loved Miles Kane's first album and his second is now out, Don't Forget Who You Are is even better in my opinion. I normally find a couple of tracks on an album that stand out but one that did straight away and made me listen to it almost on repeat was the song Darkness in our hearts.

The Friday File #35 - Hugh Jackman

With another Wolverine movie out this year and also another X-Men movie out next year, I felt it was time that Hugh Jackman was inducted to my Friday File. He's most well know for playing Wolverine but my other favourite films of his are; Real SteelVan Helsing, The Prestige and of course the X-Men series of films.

I actually think Real Steel might be my favourite and I really wasn't expecting to enjoy it that much when I saw it.

James Gandolfini

It was so sad to see the news filter through in the early hours of today that James Gandolfini had died. The Sopranos ranks very highly on my list of favourite TV programmes. As TV programmes go, it was ground breaking and I still remember recommending the series to my Mum. When I had explained that it was about a man living in the Mafia world she wasn't exactly excited to start watching. I reiterated how good it was and she promised to watch the first couple.

Before I knew it she was onto Season Two and thanking me for telling her how great it was. By the time she had got round to watching it, they were all available on Sky+ so she sped through the rest of them. The role of Tony Soprano was so iconic that I found myself calling Gandolfini 'Soprano' and I do remember saying when someone asked about the film The Mexican that I told them "Tony Soprano is in it". Oh the shame of it!

The Sopranos is still available on Sky Demand and this Friday (tomorrow) Sky Atlantic will show four of the best episodes as a tribute to him. I'll definitely be watching.

RIP James Gandolfini and thank you.

Music Monday: Hot Chip - Over and Over

Yes this song is repetitive, you might even find it annoying but I LOVE it. Therefore so should you ;-)

Would it make you feel old if I was to tell you that this song came out in 2006!

The Friday File #33 - Jim Caviezel

Jim Caviezel stars as John Reese in one of my favourite TV programmes ever in Person of Interest. Caviezel is well known for the film, The Passion of the Christ. Other films of note would be The Count of Monte Cristo and The Thin Red Line. Person of Interest has received the highest rating for a series pilot in the last 15 years and I am well and truly hooked on it.

Big Brother 2013!

I've decided that I am going to watch Big Brother 2013. This probably sounds like a random statement but I used to be a bit addicted to the series. I have not watched Big Brother in ages, years infact. I actually started to lose interest after Big Brother 8 and I had lost all interest when the series moved to Channel 5. I have decided to give it another go and I really like Emma Willis who is presenting this time. I also do realise that I might get annoyed after one evening :-/

Music Monday: Zoe - Sunshine on a rainy day

I love how random I am.

When it was raining recently (I say recently in the hope that it's now weeks and weeks of sunshine - hopes!) I started singing this song. Loudly. In my car.

Surprisingly it was on my iPod. Several days later and I was singing this song ALL THE TIME. It could be worse I suppose. Love this song!

The Friday File #32 - Henry Cavill

With the new Superman movie out it's only fair that we take a look at the newest Superman to grace our screens - Henry Cavill. I first saw him in the Count of Monte Cristo, then other films followed Tristan & Isolde and of course Stardust. But it was the TV series The Tudors that brought him international fame and indeed the American fame that is needed to be taken seriously in Hollywood.

He would have also been Edward Cullen in the Twilight films as he was who Stephanie Meyer had wanted in the role apparently. By the time filming came around he was too old for the role and the part went to Robert Pattinson. He also lost out to Pattinson again over the part of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He was also shortlisted alongside Daniel Craig to play James Bond for Casino Royale. They went with Daniel Craig but it looks likely that Cavill could replace Craig in years to come possibly. He also has been linked to be cast as Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey adaptations.

Sarah Hates... CAPTCHA

A CAPTCHA is a program that can generate and grade tests that humans can pass but current computer programs cannot. For example, humans can read distorted text as the one shown below, but current computer programs can't (taken from here)

There is a whole load of spam all over the internet and I do hate it but I hate CAPTCHA too. They say it stops computer programmes from spamming sites but it also seems to stop me from progressing either to leave a blog comment or to pay for an item maybe. There are some that I just cannot read!

I've even had some where the name is a rude word, I've had to type in Bulls*** before and I'll admit I was giggling like a schoolgirl. Also I'm never sure if capitals matter as sometimes it does and other times it doesn't. The number of times I've failed at filling in what appears to be a simple sequence is pretty high and sometimes I do just give up.

Obviously stopping spam is important as it's so annoying going through all the comments on your blog for example but some of the CAPTCHA's are ridiculous! I tend to avoid CAPTCHA's now as the stress is simply excruciating, possibly an over reaction but it's more time that you should be spent doing other things.

The maths ones are much better and I hate maths!

4+3=

Music Monday: Biffy Clyro - Opposite

I'm terrible at downloading an album and then not listening to it so I have taken the cheaper route with a full monthly subscription to Spotify. That way I can listen before I buy... when I get round to it! I've been in a bit of a Biffy Clyro mood recently and I absolutely love this album and especially the track Opposite.
