Over my 4 and a half year stint on Twitter I have seen many things (some I definitely did not want or need to see) and others that were downright barmy. I have selected five things that I see on twitter that make me shake my head. Although I probably need to get out more ;-)

Toilet Tweets

No one needs to read about your toilet behaviours. We all 'go' but you don't need to tell us when. Thanks!

Putting your location on and going on holiday

I have to say I'm not sure why people want to let the internet know where they are all the time. The location info on some tweets is a little too accurate for me and with my iPhone a wrong press and I have the details of how to get to your house. Yes, really! It makes me panic as I don't want this information but some are so ready to give it out. Also beware when you leave your location on and then say you're off on holiday and write the dates. You probably wouldn't think people would be so silly but it happens.

The day the Twitter playground got nasty

I was eight years old when the Hillsborough tragedy happened. I remember seeing it on the news and being confused over how something could have happened to football fans. Over the years we have all watched the families of those 96 Liverpool fans fight for the truth. Finally they got the truth last week, 23 years later.

Re-igniting my twitter timeline

Let's be honest twitter is all a bit silly isn't it?

I'm now into my fourth year on twitter and I have such a love/hate relationship with it at times. This isn't always about the actual service that twitter provides but people that I have been following recently have suddenly become absolutely consumed by the twitter in their phone. I'll check in or lurk as it's called by us trendy peeps and sometimes I just scroll on by, recently I found myself just scrolling and closing the app.

This was partly because I am boring. Do people really want to know what I had for dinner or what random dream I had, well sometimes people do. Weird people. Sometimes I'll write a tweet and think to myself "who cares?" and other times I'll send it with a "whatever, I'm sending it" attitude. My timeline is very active during the football season and also during the non football season. I've wanted to ban the RT method several times as people feel the need to RT loads of tweets or tweets that are abusive. I've even had to mute the c-word as I found my eyes were burning one morning before 10am. I can choose who I follow obviously and sometimes I question that when I see my TL is irritable, sometimes abusive but always passionate.

With the new football season looming I have got to using lists a lot better, I've unfollowed people who I didn't interact with and who felt the need to RT like mad on a hourly rate. There is no wrong or right way to be on twitter (except for those obviously who disobey the rules and are abusive) and I definitely don't keep to any "right" code. Twitter is individual and it's your timeline and as much as everyone else can tweet whatever they want to, it is up to you what you follow/read.

Twitter like life is about what you put into it, if you don't like it - change it.

I need to go eat some cake as I'm late in celebrating my third twit-day. Nom noms!

 

Oh IFTTT

I've been using IFTTT for a couple of months now and I wouldn't be able to manage my blogosphere life without it. The site is very simple and adopts the phrase "IF This Then That' so for example if you post a blog post and you want to send a tweet about it then you create a recipe for that task. There are nearly 50 channels including twitter, facebook, blogger, wordpress, evernote. You can create the 'This' part of the action for example;

• I post a photo on instagram

So to end your recipe with the 'that' part you would need to action it; 

• Send photo to evernote.

This very recipe was how I came across IFTTT as Facebook buying instagram had me worried that I could at some point lose my photos and wanted them saved somewhere. I now use IFTTT to do several tasks and help me organise myself better. My only criticism is that you can only load one account to each IFTTT account. So if you run two twitter accounts for example, you would need two separate IFTTT accounts. Apparently they will change that in the future but it's one of my favourite time saving internet tools.

No spam... EVER!

Oh how I wish that the above picture was true...

In the past month I've had my share of spam across a multitude of social network tools that I am definitely feeling spammed out. This isn't a new feeling but I have felt a bit in recent weeks that any account I have is more susceptible to getting spammed. It's wise to be aware of spam and the concept of "hacking" as we know it all happens, I felt annoyed by each one and mostly annoyed at myself to the point where I nearly cancelled all of my accounts. The drama!

Patchlife

I wrote a couple of months ago about capturing memories and some internet sources that can help. I've since then come across Patchlife. All of your popular social networking is put together into a daily log for you to look back on. It's a bit like Big Brother in a way.

The Follow Friday Problem

For those who don't use twitter, Follow Friday (or #FF) is a way of recommending which other tweeters you should follow. Now I've tried many approaches of #FF's and now I rarely do them, and this isn't because I don't like recommending people but because it seems to have become a bit of a farce.

Dear Santa

Now you will know I've been a good girl this year after my good report from work and Spurs boy :-) So apart from the long list of perfumes, clothes and shoes that I want for Christmas I wondered if you could help with the return of my tweets.

Never judge a book by its cover

I love social media but I've also seen the bad sides of it, there is so much abuse that is used and in some cases allowed to continue. I've seen over the years such hurtful comments made to people and all through "faceless" technology. Some people seem to have nothing better to do than to inflict their views onto others.

My Circle of Trust

I'm a good sleeper (although not recently a good dreamer) and once I'm asleep I'm gone until my alarm goes off. On very rare occasions I will wake up through the night wide awake.

Is twitter a distraction?

I love Twitter but it does affect my working week and make my productivity at work slower. I've found I'm actually working harder due to the distraction of Twitter, but do I mind?

Mojito for breakfast?

No not that kind of mojito. Although I admit I would be tempted! ;-)

Through a bit of a twitter convo with Deli2Dine4 as the lovely DynaGirl had recommended the Cuban 'Mojito' Breakfast and so I was sent a jar to try :-)

Now you already know that I love twitter. I do. I love it. There are some people who have tried it and don't understand how people can or would want to use it - I am not one of those people. I have been on twitter over a year now and I admit I may have a small addiction to it.

My iPhone goes everywhere with me, wherever I am it is never too far away. You might remember my devastation when I had dropped my phone and it failed to work, luckily it all got sorted and I'm now even more careful with it. It's my life, or rather, my life is in it.

A little bit of variety never hurt no one

My music taste is pretty varied. I think it always has been though. Working in a music store for several years only made my music taste even more varied and unfortunately it did mean I was pretty up to date with even the latest "big thing" on the music scene. This wasn't necessarily a good thing.

I hardly listen to commercial radio any more and I tend to stick to the music I know best and have followed for a long time. I rely on friends, twitter, facebook etc to find out about the new music I should have a listen to.

Sarah Loves... Tumblr

Have you heard of Tumblr? 

Tumblr is a blogging platform that enables users to post text, images, video, links, quotes and audio to their tumblelog. You can follow other users, like their posts and re-blog any posts that you like onto your own blog. In many ways it is similar to Twitter.

The Faithful

So the football season is over. The trophy is on loan to Stamford Bridge. They had better look after it, as we already want it back. Manchester United will be back BETTER and STRONGER next season.

Some of my Twitters followers know this weekend I had my first @reply from someone who left a personal and particularly hateful comment about a member of my family. I stupidly commented back as I completely saw red and was so angered by such an ignorant comment, but particularly as the comment was against someone I love.
