The day the Twitter playground got nasty

I was eight years old when the Hillsborough tragedy happened. I remember seeing it on the news and being confused over how something could have happened to football fans. Over the years we have all watched the families of those 96 Liverpool fans fight for the truth. Finally they got the truth last week, 23 years later.

See! I told you

When my brother says "See! I told you" he really did tell me but him being correct is slightly error ridden. I've mentioned a few times that my brother has Downs and his being right most of the time comes from an addictive side to him feeding himself information. He's sports mad like me but he takes more of it in, his memory is different to mine. He might be able to take you through the running order of the Manchester United Treble DVD and who scores each goal for both teams but he can't tell you which of our players are midfielders or strikers. His football knowledge expands further than just Manchester United and if you ask him about a random footballer he'll name all the teams he's played for. Unless he's really not interested in even bothering to tell you a certain footballers career.

He has always loved goals and the same for strikers, although he didn't know that's their position title! For years he loved Michael Owen whilst he netted goals for Liverpool and Newcastle and I would squirm as it made me uncomfortable. When Michael Owen came to United it felt a bit like fate, his shirt was bought quickly and despite the fact now that Owen has left he understands why. Or more so he knew that we would be getting someone else...

He can't really read full sentences but he can read enough to work out a headline or opening paragraph in a football article. About two weeks ago he was adamant that the paper said Van Persie was coming, I read the article and read it out loud which was something like "talks are ongoing about a move for Van Persie to Manchester United". My brother just took the last 8 words and it was done!

When it was announced that Van Persie had passed his medical and had officially signed I went to see my brother to share the news. I was beyond giddy and he said "See! I told you" but that was it. The excitement factor wasn't there, it had happened weeks ago for him and there I was bouncing off the walls because NOW it had happened.

It's not his fault and in many ways I should know that when my brother says something is going to happen, it means that there is a high chance that it will. Although I do like hearing "See! I told you" because it's accompanied with the biggest grin.

Almost time for the new Football season

The Premier League football season is almost back. Almost. The summer gap between the season's end and the new one seem to take longer and longer each time. The transfer gossip gets insane and more ludicrous also. The desire to watch football, any football is there and you know that no matter what - nothing compares to seeing your own team play. Nothing.

The glimpses of pre-season football give you a taste of what is yet to come but it's not quite the same as proper matches. It's much closer now and for me I am counting sleeps and wondering if I can borrow a time machine to make the time go quicker.

In the meantime I will sort out my old football shirts, some of mine now need a bit of needle and thread action (!?!) due to them being very old now. I also might invest into a new shirt, although I'm not totally loving the new shirt so I'll maybe look at one of the retro shirts. Much to ponder on the shirt front! Then I need to look at my fantasy teams and set up a reminder for them each week as I have a habit of forgetting about them after Christmas! Doh!

Sorting my fantasy teams and my shirt will probably take some time as I'll get distracted by some other memorabilia or a stupid headline on the Fantasy Football page. This is good. Football is almost back and Manchester United want their trophy back!




 

Happy Birthday Sir Bobby

The above picture was taken as Sir Bobby helped with the World Cup inspection of Old Trafford earlier this year. I love that he still has the same love for football that he had when he used to be on the play. He went through so much with Manchester United and he is someone who I know I certainly have looked up to growing up and I'm still amazed by.

Farewell Freddie

A sad day for cricketing fans yesterday as Andrew Flintoff retired from all forms of cricket. We all knew the news was coming but it doesn't make it any easier to hear.

Now you all know I love my football, and I'm pretty knowledgeable on the area. I'm a passionate football fan who enjoys banter with rival fans, and have pretty colourful language when watching Manchester United play at times ;-)

Spain win The World Cup

Well it's over. Another World Cup won. Spain I feel are worthy winners across the tournament, although it certainly wasn't great World Cup overall. I don't just mean England's dismal display which I might add I'm still trying to erase from my memory. But there have been better tournaments, but I'm not taking anything away from Spain.

Pretty things

You might remember me saying I'm not a real girlie girl. In fact typing those words makes me cringe. Yuck! But sometimes it's nice to add a touch of femininity to your clothes. As I've said before I spend quite a lot of my time in sportswear but I still have meetings to go to that need to look a little less like I'm on a mission of war.

Recently Dorothy Perkins have forced me kicking and screaming into buying some clothes emailed me their monthly newsletter of offers and I have bought a few things ;-) This time it's all about ruffles and lace :-O

Now with England's not unexpected early exit from The World Cup now I can watch the rest of the games with no fear or nerves. Although a Spain win will still make me a very happy girl, a nice win on the World Cup sweepstake. Perfecto!

Does the FA do refunds?

Forgive me if this still seems as bitter and disappointed as I was during and straight after England's awful World Cup 0-0 draw against Algeria in South Africa. Even after a night's sleep I am still annoyed but mostly I feel letdown. Again.

After returning this week from my trip to New York (and the jetlag has really hit in the last 48 hours) I feel a little indifferent towards England's opening match against USA in The World Cup.

World Cup Fever Starts NOW

It's here it's finally here. The World Cup starts today - woot woot! I'm excited, I really am I've been excited for weeks months and now the waiting is over!

Get Well Soon Rio

Gutted for Rio. Gutted for the team. Great loss for our World Cup hopes. But on the positive side I'm pleased that Michael Dawson has been called back up to the squad.

It's Soccer Aid tomorrow and although I doubt I'll be able to watch the match until I'm home via the wonder of the ITV Player :-)) but I gotta remind you all that there is some serious eye candy this year.

So recently I have been caught waiting patiently for Little man to come out of school doing World Cup sticker swaps in the playground. Yes sad I know but I'm determined to complete the album before the World Cup starts.

The Faithful

So the football season is over. The trophy is on loan to Stamford Bridge. They had better look after it, as we already want it back. Manchester United will be back BETTER and STRONGER next season. 

Becoming a WAG

With everything that's going on at the moment I probably was more than a little surprised that Spurs boy has joined a Sunday League football team. I asked on Twitter if this meant I had now become a WAG, and apparently it does!

So a WAG I must be. Immediately my head was full of premieres, shoe shopping, perfumes, my own clothing line etc. In reality though my life doesn't change, I was just getting carried away for a few minutes hours.
